Fishing at Moores Park on the Grand River.  This is a good spot if you are looking to stay in the local area and do some steelhead fishing.

Small Spoons

After using up a large amount of spawn drifting in the holes, I elected to use a few smaller spoons that I have done well in the river with.  The little fish are hitting most anything that comes into the holes.

Drifting Spawn Bags...

These little fish are very hungry and will go after spawn bags like crazy.  I did have two nice fish on for a brief time but didn't have a good hook and they got off after a few head shakes.
1st cast with a new spawn bag.  These little fish have just been planted not long ago.  It is really great for the long term health of the river as a whole.

Manistee River by SteelSlam

SteelSlam called in his report from the Big Man tonight.  He found action in the slower water using plugs back 60 - 80 ft from the boat.

The river is still flowing fast and dark so he suggests finding a little slower water and using a variety of slow water techniques:  Slip Bobber, Plugs, Spawn.

Tight Lines....

Moores Park - Grand River

There are steelhead in the river at Moores Park in Lansing.  The numbers will be better as you go west on the Grand river, but for those people that are local and do not have time to travel far from home.... it is time to go fishing!

I observed about 6 - 8 fish jump at different times attempting to go up river.

Good Luck and Tight Lines.....

Grand River - Old Town

Fishing the Grand River in Old Town Lansing.

For those people who do not want to travel far from home.
This is another good fishing spot to check out.

There are some steelhead caught at this location, however the overall numbers are less than 6th street bridge in Grand Rapids or the Rogue River.  Still all in all it is a good spot to get out and do some fishing.

Manistee River Report 4/13

I got a call in from "SteelSlam" who has been up fishing the Big Manistee River since Tuesday.
Tuesday was productive with 2 steelhead and one 23 inch brown.  The report for today so far is that the river is slow.

He saw the other boats fishing around the Rock Pile had 8 - 10 fish on today and a few from shore.
The big story is the River Flow which is currently at:

DISCHARGE:  2,810
Temp: 7 c ( 44.8 F )
Gage Height  9.37

04125550 MANISTEE RIVER NEAR WELLSTON, MI  04/13 12:00 EST 7.0 9.37 2,810

At this time the fishing is a little slow, but the water temp is just beginning to hit that perfect zone.  Once the river flow is slowed just a bit it should be PRIME!

Today "SteelSlam"  had his 45 lb chain anchor down with almost 45 foot of line out to hold his position.  Any small movement and the boat and it wanted to drift again.  That same hole normally is 18 to 20 foot of line and no drifting.

In Short the water is MOVING Strong for a bit yet.

Good Luck
