March 31st - Lake Michigan Temps
Manistee River - 3/30 Report
I got a call from SteelSlam.... a long time friend and fisherman who has been fishing this week.
Official Count for March 30th was 1 for 3 on Steelhead. He said that the browns are active and he caught quite a few smaller fish. The steelhead action is still a bit slow with water temps between 37 F and 38 F. The fish activity will increase rapidly when the water temp rises into the mid 40's.
The preferred bait of choice.... ALL ( Spawn, Wet Fly and Minnows ) You can add Wax Worm, Wigglers and body baits as well.
The proposed fishing plan for March 31st is to head down river to Manistee Lake or fishing near the Breakwall at the mouth of the river and the big lake.

Manistee River & Tippy Dam
I am getting reports from "SteelSlam" who is fishing on the river all this week.
His FIRST STATEMENT was that the water temp is low and many people have said the run is over.... but in fact most of the fish have not spawned yet.
There have been some fish on gravel, especially in smaller tributary waters where the temp may have been a little higher at times.
Here is the current river temp information for Manistee River below Tippy Dam. I have shown the daily, 2 day, week, month and 2 month graph's.
You can clearly see that the normal water temp averaged over many years is normally much higher at this time of the year.
I will be up on the river this weekend to hook some steel first hand.
More information from SteelSlam and others.

Pere Marquette River - 3/29
It is still looking pretty cold out at the mouth of the river but the faithful fishermen have been holding down the pier and getting some nice fish.
Make sure to send in your fish photos and / or story by emailing your post to misteelhead.photos@blogger.com
